Ok, so who turned up at the Hall for the Christmas market this afternoon to find it already closed… yes me, disappointed i couldn’t go in and buy lots of the lovely craft products as it was 3.30pm and closing time… oh well there were some stalls left open in the Courtyard, Indian crafts, wall hangings, bags etc; Chinese silks (or are they Japanese?..) African carvings, lovely food.  Sadly the cafe closed at 3.30 as well and the stalls weren’t allowed to sell coffee as the cafe was open earlier.  The park shuts at 5pm so it’s sad the Hall craft fair closed it’s doors so early, especially for the traders; i was looking forward to the lovely watercolour and embroidery pictures, jewellery, photographs, scarves etc.   Instead to brighten up the day i headed for the markysparks mini store (food hall) at Ilkeston via D H Lawrence country hence the pic above, for tomorrows dinner, but before i left the park i did have a yummy stew an roasties.

I would have liked to see some beautiful Christmas lights, however there is a really cool light show apparently, at Rufford Abbey (a park in north notts) where they are holding an ‘Aurora Illuminations’ show for Christmas (info: ‘Christmas’ page and subpage ‘other parks nearby’) sounds quite good and there are two excellent arty crafty shops there, a restaurant and cafe.

Food Markets are being held for the three weekends starting November 26/27th.

The November steam weekend has been cancelled, the next is now 18 Dec 10am-4pm, admission £1, and has the Santa Special….and Santa’s reindeer spend the year in the Park

Don’t miss the awsome mechanical wonder of the mega shiny Beam Engine, I really like this exhibition and wish it didnt have to be restricted to a once a month event.
